Set up in 2015, MacComms is founded and run by well-connected West Yorkshire businesswoman Ellie MacDonald who has a decades’ marketing and communications experience.
Having grown the business from just Ellie, MacComms now has a full-time core team of four, alongside three out-sourced directors; Martin Mellor finance director, Chris Rabbit sales director, and Sarah Darbyshire HR director.

Meet the core team below:
Ellie is the founder and managing director of MacComms. Prior to setting up her business in 2015, Ellie undertook several roles within the marketing and PR industry, including marketing manager at the Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce where she learnt how to be an editor of business news publication, Close Up for Business magazine.
Ellie is also an accomplished account manager, having handled around a dozen client accounts during her time at a PR agency.
An award-winning entrepreneur, in her short time in business Ellie has won several awards in business and was recognised for her significant contribution to the region, having been presented with the Community Values Award at Entrepreneurial Spark Leeds’ Celebrate Success Event. Ellie was also highly commended at the inaugural Inspiring Women Changemakers Awards in 2017.
Ellie is incredibly passionate about giving back to the community. Her greatest motivator for setting up MacComms was to become an employer that cares. At the very core of MacComms’ values is a business that is focussed on treating people right.
Senior account executive
With a first-class degree from The University of Huddersfield in Advertising and Marketing Communications, Emily is a high achiever with a keen interest in helping MacComms’ clients to improve their online presence through the creation of engaging and interactive content.
Emily has a particular interest in photography and videography and volunteers her skills to assist independent charities, such as Getaway Girls with its PR and communications projects.
During her time at university, Emily received a White Rose Award for her outstanding performance, alongside being named on the ‘Dean’s list’ for excellence.
MacComms’ account manager, Jennifer has devised and implemented PR and communications strategies on behalf of clients since she joined the business in January 2016.
With experience in delivering campaigns across both B2B and B2C accounts, Jennifer has undertaken roles both in-house and client-side since completing an undergraduate degree in marketing and public relations at The University of Lincoln in 2013.
Jennifer is currently on maternity leave and will re-join MacComms in 2018.
Digital PR executive
Sophie heads up our client social media accounts and all things digital. She manages MacComms’ communications, writes press releases and online content whilst also adding a design element to the business.
A First Class Master’s degree in Marketing fuelled her love for all things digital and resulted in her writing a thesis on Generation Z’s engagement with fashion brands on Instagram and Snapchat. Her favourite social network is Instagram for inspiration, vegetarian recipes and cat videos, but loves Twitter for sourcing information and staying in touch with friends in the industry.
