133-year-old signage firm completes transformative projects in Leeds

    By Ellie MacDonald | Client news | Comments are Closed | 15 November, 2021 | 0

A 133-year-old signage business headquartered in Leeds is celebrating a number of major project completions in the city, including The Headline residential scheme on Wellington Street.

Sign and branding specialist Widd Signs has completed work to manufacture and install signage at a number of newly-created high-profile residential developments across the city, including Mustard Wharf on the South Bank (built by construction company Sir Robert McAlpine) and The Headline which is located on the historic site of the former Yorkshire Post building.

For both schemes, Widd Signs manufactured and installed hundreds of striking external and internal signage, based on designs created by wayfinding and brand consultancy f.r.a. This included external and internal wayfinding, as well as room numbering and branding, with an array of high-quality materials used including brass and corian.

Both completions come at a busy time for Widd Signs; in September, the company, which also has a base in St Helens, recorded its strongest month since the start of the pandemic, securing five new contract wins including a five-figure deal with Chelsea Football Club. It was also involved in the recent transformation of office building 1 City Square in Leeds, installing a range of external and internal signage as part of a £7.5m remodelling and refurbishment programme.

Gary Williams, managing director of Widd Signs, said:

“As a Leeds-headquartered company, we’re really proud of our work to transform some of the city’s most high-profile developments.

“Despite the challenges of the pandemic, we’re experiencing increasing demand for our services, particularly in the construction sector, with our work on The Headline and Mustard Wharf typifying the high-quality, bespoke solutions we deliver for clients.”

Located at Wharf Approach, overlooking the Leeds Liverpool Canal, Mustard Wharf offers a mix of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, with the complex also boasting an on-site gym, and two clubhouses complete with private dining rooms. The Headline, located on Wellington Street, is the latest project from the UK’s largest listed residential landlord, Grainger plc – its first build-to-rent development in Leeds, featuring 242 new homes.
