Yorkshire manufacturer wins exporter of the year award

    By Ellie MacDonald | Client news | Comments are Closed | 13 November, 2019 | 0

Europe’s only manufacturer of classic jukeboxes, Sound Leisure, has won a prestigious regional award as Yorkshire Exporter of the Year.

The Leeds-based company scooped the Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Award at an awards ceremony held on Wednesday 6th November at Headingley’s Emerald Stadium.

Sound Leisure, a family-run firm has been manufacturing jukeboxes as well as distraction products for children’s play areas through its sister company SLKids for over 40 years. The company exports its products to 27 countries with America, the home of the jukebox, its largest market.

Managing director of Sound Leisure, Chris Black commented:
“2019 has been a fantastic year. Despite Brexit delays hindering our work in Europe, we’ve continued to grow our Asian markets and even had a royal visit. We proudly fly the flag for great British manufacturing across the world and are equally as proud to be based in Yorkshire, so to win this prestigious regional award is the icing on the cake.”

The awards ceremony hosted over 400 people, chaired by Chanel 4 broadcaster Cathy Newman.

Yorkshire Post business editor Mark Casci opened the ceremony and commented:
“What an absolutely fantastic night for the region. Yorkshire has one of the most diverse, innovative and forward-thinking economies in the world. All of the shortlisted companies can be extremely proud of themselves.”

Established in 1978, Sound Leisure is a family-run firm which manufacturers and exports its bespoke products globally to some of the world’s most prestigious locations.
