Bobbie’s valuable work experience at MacComms

    By Ellie MacDonald | Latest news | Comments are Closed | 29 October, 2015 | 4

I initially heard about MacComms when starting the application process for my work placement in my third year of studies at the University of Huddersfield. I am an events management student, however, I have various other interests including PR and marketing. These interests came across when discussing my placement year with a member of staff at the university, and this is when I heard about MacComms.

MacComms, a start-up business based at the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre by Ellie MacDonald, seemed like a step in the right direction for me. The company offers businesses a range of press release copywriting, communications, social media, digital and traditional marketing services, as well as being involved in a number of different events. I, therefore, thought it was the ideal opportunity to offer my experience in events management, whilst learning new skills myself.

I felt extremely excited about the opportunities and valuable experience on offer at the Huddersfield firm, just a stones throw away from both the university and my accommodation.

My first day consisted of getting to know the company and its clients, getting familiar with what MacComms offers and also taking part in my first few tasks. I was understandably nervous however Ellie put me at ease with a cup of tea and a biscuit! I was welcomed into a lovely working environment and my nerves soon disappeared and transformed into enthusiasm.

I have always had an interest in social media so getting involved in the company Twitter account and communicating with a number of clients and fellow companies was a lovely way to end my first day. I left feeling like I had already learnt so much.

MacComms is keen to support young people into employment.
