The importance of a strong image

    By Ellie MacDonald | Latest news | Comments are Closed | 9 June, 2016 | 0

We have all heard the phrase ‘a picture speaks a thousand words’ and when it comes to securing extensive media coverage, an image speaks volumes.

With sixty-five percent of our entire population having identified themselves as visual learners, the majority of visitors to any web page, social media post, and news article will make their decision at the blink of an eye. Equally, with the first impression making a lasting impact, it is key to represent your business as effectively as possible. Therefore, image, is everything.

With an audience of snap judgements, the importance of perfecting that key image is paramount when promoting any business. Too often businesses use low quality ‘home made’ photography to represent their business and brand image. At the wise advice of an experienced PR manager, businesses are encouraged to use professional, high-quality images that effectively represent the brand, the message or the business. A good quality, organic, image can make the difference between achieving a large feature in a newspaper or magazine, as opposed to tiny, bit of copy lost in a publication when image-less, regardless how strong the story.

Strong photography creates more conversation and can invite audiences that can see your product or service. It is equally important to use a suitable image that incorporates your brand values and business integrity, and all too often, stock photography is suggested, but rarely used by the media.

And it isn’t just press coverage that is impacted by your image. Image searches on Google can be a major source of traffic for your website and can equally drive audiences towards your business. Studies have also shown results that up to sixty percent of web traffic can come directly from internet users finding your image first. With all these factors to consider, a strong image can equally strengthen an articles content, inviting other publications to feature articles on your business. All these elements invite the public to discover your business and drive internet traffic towards your business and its media platforms.

At MacComms, we therefore encourage businesses to maintain a variety of professional quality images that represent their business and brand values.

MacComms’ client Zest Mixology has recently received wide media coverage with a press release we put out for them on their success in securing festival contracts worth over £100k. This press release featured a very strong high-quality image of one of Zest Mixology’s bar’s at a festival. The strong photograph immediately conveys exactly what the story is about, and, sun-drenched and filled with people enjoying Zest’s VIP bar, the image immediately demonstrates the success of the business. We therefore weren’t surprised to achieve vast coverage in key regional business publications; BDaily, BQ Yorkshire, Topic UK, Growth Yorkshire, The Business Desk Yorkshire and The Yorkshire Post, all of which used the carefully selected image, even with others to select.

It’s therefore clear to see (pun intended!) that the return received from using a strong image can be tenfold and can dramatically enhance your businesses image and digital presence.
