Yorkshire chooses to support homeless at awards ceremony

    By Ellie MacDonald | Client news | Comments are Closed | 24 February, 2020 | 0

A West-Yorkshire based homelessness charity has been announced as the charity to benefit from the funds raised at a regional awards ceremony.

Simon on the Streets, which offers support to local people in Bradford, Leeds and Huddersfield is the chosen charity partner for the 2020 Yorkshire Choice Awards.

Entering its fifth year since beginning in 2016, the awards sees a public vote chose from over 300 nominees across 12 categories in business, sport, inspiration and fundraising.

Previous years has seen thousands of pounds raised for charities including St Gemma’s Hospice, The Danny Jones Defibrillator Fund, Martin House Children’s Hospice and Bethany’s Smile.

800 attendees will join Simon on the Streets for the Yorkshire Choice Awards ceremony on 14th March at the Centenary Pavilions, Elland Road, Leeds United.

Funds are raised by a raffle, live and silent auctions with prizes donated from companies across the region.

All funds raised at the event will go towards Simon on the Streets’ essential work in the region, which includes street-based support for people affected by homelessness.

Melanie Malcolm, co-founder of Yorkshire Choice Awards commented:
“Each year we have hundreds of applications from charities to become the charity partner. As Simon on the Streets recently celebrated its 20th anniversary year we thought it would be a good year to support with their fundraising activities.

“We are really hoping to make a difference this year for Simon on the Streets, hopefully our fundraising can give someone hope and support to turn their life around”

Simon on the Streets’ development manager, Fahad Khan added:
“We’re really grateful to Yorkshire Choice Awards for selecting Simon on the Streets as this year’s charity partner for the largest publicly voted awards celebration in the region. The awareness and funds raised will go a long way in helping us with our work to support entrenched rough sleepers across West Yorkshire.”
