Sophie tells all about her first few weeks at MacComms

    Sophie at MacComms

Sophie Nightingale joined team MacComms early April and has written about her experience of her placement she has been undertaking:

Following my master’s degree in marketing from Leeds Beckett University, I have continued to stay interested in the digital marketing world, particularly social media. Since then I have freelanced in digital design and marketing but wanted to expand my skills set in an environment where I would get lots of hands-on experience.

I have now been with MacComms for three weeks on a PR and social media executive placement. During my time here, I have helped to revamp the website making it look more professional, updated the online client portfolio and award wins and have managed the MacComms’ and client social media accounts. With a bit of help and guidance, I have even drafted and sent out my first few press releases.

I have also been able to create more visuals for both MacComms and the clients which the PR agency represent including testimonials, inspiration quotes, posters and invitations. I have particularly enjoyed doing this which has added a new design dimension to MacComms. I love that I am able to use my design and digital experience to advise clients on content and copy, something that would not happen if I was in a large corporate company.

Although I have only been with MacComms for three weeks now, I feel part of the team and very inspired by Ellie and Emily who are hardworking and great at what they do. I have learnt a lot and have enjoyed meeting clients and getting involved with new projects. Having enjoyed a successful few weeks, both Ellie and I have agreed to extend the placement until at least the end of May. I look forward to continuing working with the team and expanding my knowledge of the PR industry.

    Ellie added:

“Much like when I first interviewed Emily, I knew Sophie had something special about her. I was introduced to Sophie through my business mentor, Andy Lima of Leeds Beckett University (as part of the Ad:Venture programme). Andy had just told me how important it was in the early days of a young business to hire entrepreneurial people and Sophie is absolutely that, she is a confident and ambitious young woman who is already undertaking freelance digital and design work and she’s as good as, if not better than many professionals I’ve met over the years in this sector,

“Sophie has helped jazz up our documents such as our proposals and we look more professional than ever! She has quickly gelled with the team and shares our values to work and play hard.

“I am delighted that Sophie has accepted an extension of the placement, I’m confident she has a very bright future ahead of her, for now I hope its bright pink for at least a little longer!”

I’m starting to build strong relationships with clients that I look forward to maintaining and continue working with in the future.
